In 2008, prior to starting my practice, my family was heavily impacted by the Great Financial Crisis and my father was one of the unfortunate folks who lost his job in banking as a result. My family's experience in this difficult time is the main reason I do what I do - I became an advisor to help families in the good times and when times are tough. My mission is to build plans that can't fail, so clients can be successful no matter what life throws at them.
I live in Seattle and love to stay active by biking, skiing, boating. My husband and I have a dog and we love to travel! We're always off to either visit his family in Japan, connect with my friends in Spain, or check out somewhere entirely new. We're a creative-focused family and love the theater, music, and the arts in general.
What Makes Your Practice Unique
I run my practice 100% virtually and make it therefore very easy for clients to work with me. My specialties lie in planning for highly compensated tech employees, folks going through a divorce, and pre-retirees who specifically want help with income planning to make the transition into retirement smoothly. For every new client I design a customized plan that examines all areas of their financial life and as an independent advisor, I don't sell proprietary products - this allows me to truly act as a fiduciary.
My clients are either highly compensated tech employees (particularly those who work at Microsoft and Amazon) or single women who are divorced or widowed and are nearing or already in retirement. They are typically in their late 40s to 50s with kids who are older, or who have already 'launched'. They want to be more strategic with their wealth and income to have an actual plan for retirement, taxes, and college planning. They like having a 'go to' person for financial guidance.
Working with women approaching retirement who have been divorced or widowed, retirement income planning for folks in their 50s, and financial planning for highly compensated tech employees who receive stock compensation. I love helping women take control of their financial lives and helping pre-retirees turn their wealth into income they can count on.
A Client Story
One of my favorite stories from the last few years is a couple where the wife was about to retire from Microsoft in 6 months with $3MM in stock awards (in addition to the many shares they already owned) as well as a deferred comp plan and 401(k). They had a prior advisor who had different financial tools in place, but no overall strategy, and the clients no idea how to make the transition into retirement successfully. They were used to paying $200k+ tax bills every year.
We were able to create a Donor Advised Fund for them that helps preserve their family's passion for giving, created at $792,000 tax deduction, AND avoided over $165,000 in capital gains they would have owed otherwise. This was the first time in a decade or more they got a refund!
We helped them organize what they had in place with the prior advisor, change what no longer suited them, and reposition their wealth for the new life phase, all along making it clear to understand the process they would experience when retiring from Microsoft.
We also helped them (along with an attorney) set up their estate plan and give them peace of mind that their kids would be taken care of in the way they wanted.
We even walked them through the health insurance changes from the work plan, to COBRA, to Medicare which before was causing a lot of stress.
We showed them the most advantageous way to take social security for the maximum benefit based on their ages, health, and income.
They came to us with a lot of questions and many years of huge tax bills, but by working together we were able to ease their minds as they transitioned into retirement, create a clear plan they could understand and follow, and take away the tax pain while enabling them to continue their giving goals. They're awesome and now very happily retired!
